The only reason I saw this movie was because I'd seen the other ones. I was somewhat excited to see if they'd do a better job than the previous sequels but left thinking it was mediocre.

In my opinion, the first movie is the best. I didn't think it was too violent, sexual, etc. for kids over 13. I think some 11 and 12 year olds could handle it and be fine but it might bother others.

If you want to see it. Redbox it, that way you're only out just more than $1 if you aren't satisfied.

Can I say this? I am tired of Jack Sparrow. The quirky character became the symbol of the franchise and it just feels like the whole thing has run out of gas. On Stranger Tides does improve on the dreadfully convoluted plots of the last two with a straightforward race story, and the sets and cinematography are on par with the others. But at two hours and fifteen minutes, it was overlong and strangely dull. The best bit was the vicious mermaid attack, which provides a nice contrast to Disney's The Little Mermaid... See Full Review

This is my favorite of the "Pirates" series, with the exception of the first one. I liked the twists and turns of the plot, Johnny Depp is funny and there is great chemistry among the cast. It's quality family entertainment.

It is different from the previous films and is missing a few main characters, but I think they still pulled off a good movie.

This film doesn’t feel at all like the previous films, other than the fact that it’s super long. The difference between this and the previous films is due in part to the new director and that it is based on a pirate novel that originally had nothing to do with Pirates of the Caribbean. So they have taken a story that was just about pirates and the fountain of youth, and replaced all those characters with characters from the Pirates franchise. Barbosa’s character is quite different. He’s now a peg-legged British privateer working for the King and trying to beat the Spanish to the fountain of youth. He’s nowhere near as fun as he used to be. Blackbeard is the least interesting and least explained bad guy to ever grace a pirate movie. Why can he control his ship with his mind? How does he have a bunch of sunken ships in miniature version? Does it have anything to do with his voodoo-practicing first mate? Why does this movie have to be so long? None of this is explained at all. One other thing about the film I did not enjoy was the ubiquity of the topless mermaids. About half-way through this film (so about 3 hours in) there are mermaids in the story and they don’t wear shirts. There’s nothing shown that would make the film r-rated, but it frequently gets pretty close. Did I mention that the film is really long? Anyway, I was not excited by this film. It seems no better than the second or third, and at least those films didn’t have partial nudity.

The weakest of all the Pirate movies but the character are still a lot of fun on the big screen and still worth seeing.

Worth my time, but just barely. I'm tired of the Pirates franchise, but this film took some risks that paid off where the previous two failed miserably.

I was surprised to see how good this movie was normally most series kind of die out and get boring but this was very funny and adventurous. I think the language is like a sailors so watch for little ears.

I am a definite Depp and POTC movies fan. However, this is the wekest of the series. Still fun to watch, but not as good as previous releases.

This film wasn't terrible, but I'm not sure it is worth $8.50 to see in the theaters. It definitely has the feel of the previous movies, but some of the plot was very difficult to follow. On top of this some of the acting by Depp felt a little half-hearted. It appears they might be setting this up for yet another sequel. Which may be what was wrong with this one. Third movie brought a ton of closure. So this one felt like a spin-off more than a sequel. It felt like it was getting a bit too old. If they film another, they're just beating a dead horse, to use an analogy.
All in all it was a fun ride despite some disjointedness in the plot. See it, just not for full price.
This is a solid PG-13 for violence having to do with lots of sharp, steel blades, disturbing imagery, and some sexual innuendo (Very subtle)

On par with Pirates 1

Great movie. Not for little kids but no problem taking the 14 year old.

good show - better than the others, had more of a plot.

• ages 14+ |

*spoiler* (not really though) - I didn't care for a scene where mermaids attack someone. Blood goes everywhere, not my thing.

• ages 10+ | Worth Your Time

Good story telling.

Pirates is what it's always been -- a fun, lighthearted, adventure film. The story in Pirates 4 is much better than it was in 2 or 3, but because we've been exposed to the whole thing before it doesn't feel as fresh or original as the first. The film is very definitely not appropriate for anyone who is not at least a teenager, nor does it have a redeeming or uplifting story. It is simply one more adventure of the scoundrel Jack Sparrow, which is fun enough on its own.

• ages 11+ | Worth Your Time

The mermaid scenes may be a little extreme for smaller children.

• ages 15+ |

too many sexual inuendos, also a bit scarey

• ages 14+ | Not Worth Your Time

Seems like all these movies became stupid after the first one was made. This one was better than 2 and 3 but very boring and stupid. Not even Penelepe Cruise who is very, very, very hot make this movie worth your time.

• No Maturity Rating | Worth Your Time

It was predictable... yet fun, nevertheless. Kids will especially love it. The mermaids are cooler than the have-been cinema vampires.

• ages 11+ | Not Worth Your Time

This movie shouldn't be called Pirates of the Caribbean, instead it should be Pirates walking around on land. I seriously think they only spent 15 minutes total on the ocean. The rest was in London or wandering around on land. I found myself pretty bored during this movie, it is not as good as the other ones by my book.

This plot was better than the last movie they made. Would rate it a high PG13 because of the violence and some nudity. Would not recommend for kids. But it has its funny parts. If it weren't for Johnny Depp's original performance and unique twists, I don't think the movie would be as successful.

• ages 11+ | Worth Your Time

I wouldn't recommend it for young kids at all. It has a similar scare factor as the other movies. It is a great movie though. I love all the Pirates movies and I loved this one as well.

To dark, not as much fun as it should have been.

• ages 13+ | Worth Your Time

While not as good as the first "Pirates," this one also wasn't as bad as the third installment. It's just a fun summer movie.

There were parts that my 9 year old would have been too scared to watch. In the packed theater, there were a couple of young girls huddled together near us who elected not to watch most of the movie and hid in their hands most of the time.

I can just say one thing about the mermaids. Ariel lost her sea shells. Their hair "covers" the bare minimum to pass this off as a PG-13 film. I thought there was very little left to the imagination when it came to topless mermaids.

The movie was funny and worthy of the franchise. I would warn parents about the violence, intensity and female nudity. Hair just is not enough to cover a woman's chest.

All that being said, I think this was worth the time to see.

• No Maturity Rating | Not Worth Your Time

It was a predictable, very uninteresting story. I was actually bored during the movie.

Hmm. You can call this show Pirates of the Caribbean: The Search for Disney Profits in 3D. Enough already!

"Pirates 4" was similar to the previous three in the context of humor, content and swash-buckling adventure. At the same time it was refreshingly original with new characters and the storyline. I really liked it.
